International collaboration is a key component of nuclear safety and security. Our programs are designed to provide scientists with the information they need to cooperate internationally and safely and responsibly utilize their country’s nuclear capacity. We focus on strengthening cultures of nuclear security, combating illicit trafficking and nuclear terrorism, and advancing nonproliferation and nuclear security education.
STRENGTHENING NUCLEAR SECURITY CULTURE
Systems designed to improve security will depend on the individuals who operate it. CRDF Global supports efforts to develop a culture of security throughout nuclear workforces by sponsoring efforts to develop reliability programs, expanding the reach of professional societies, and supporting workshops involving stakeholders in industry, academia, and regulatory agencies.
COMBATING ILLICIT TRAFFICKING AND NUCLEAR TERRORISM
Threat of nuclear terrorism and the illicit trafficking of nuclear material requires coordination across borders and professional sectors. Our work supports nuclear experts in science, law enforcement, and policy. We also assist countries in their efforts to develop nuclear forensics capabilities that can help identify the possible origins of nuclear material found out of regulatory control.
ADVANCING NONPROLIFERATION AND NUCLEAR SECURITY EDUCATION
Nonproliferation and nuclear security education establishes a foundation for dialogue and a source of innovative ideas for improving nuclear security. We support develop curriculum, study tours, tailored fellowship programs, and provide travel grants to support the participation of experts lacking financial resources to participate in dialogues on nuclear security and nonproliferation education.
